PULSACOIL III constantly refilling tank and leaking!
Hi,
We have a pulsacoil iii in our flat and our top tank often runs out of water and we are having to fill it up manually for both green lights to come on and work again! I have heard that it is normal to have to fill it up occasionally, but we have had to do it about 9 times in 11 months, where the woman who lived here previously only had to do it once in 9 years! Also there appears to be a leak around the bottom of the tank, as the carpet is all wet in our cupboard. I fillled the top tank a couple of days ago and within 2 days the water level had dropped too low and there was a load of water on the carpet.
We had an engineer come and look at it last night, but he wasn't a specific pulsacoil specialist and admitted not knowing much about them and just told us it needed replacing! Would anyone know if this sounds like it can be fixed and if this would be cheaper than a whole new tank?
Thank you, been without hot water for a almost a week now!

Re: PULSACOIL III constantly refilling tank and leaking!
You need to check if possible where the water is leaking from.
Could be high up and tracking down.
Use a torch as light is reflected by water.
If the unit is leaking, may be a replacement unit.
Could try a leak sealer but 50 /50.

Hi Jacqui
If you are loosing water from the top tank, then the unit is leaking somewhere. Unless the leak is from the top tank itself, either from the bottom edge of the top tank or from the two 30mm nuts either side, then I'm afraid your plumber is correct it will need replacing.
If you are "lucky enough" to be leaking from either of these two places, then the unit can be repaired with either a replacement tank or replacement seals for the nuts.
We cover the Midlands if that's of any help to you.

Possible leak areas
I would check the joint above where the universal F&E tank are connected to the main unit itself.
Check all possible joints and the two immersion elements inside the unit. If the leak is not visible, then I would say it may be the bass of the main cylinder. If this is the case, I would recommend you replace the system. Below are links on the replacement system available:

Pulsacoil BP
Pulsacoil BP Manual
