Red flashing light Empty Red flashing light

Post  kirst01 Sun May 20, 2012 3:42 pm

The electricity was off in the house earlier today, I don't know if this has any relevance, but the red light on my Boilermate A class is flashing slowly. I have read the booklet on the front of the boiler but it gives no information and I haven't got a clue what to do about this, my hot water is unaffected, don't know about the heating as the radiators are all off. Should I contact a plumber tomorrow and is this safe? I'm on my own, older and a bit worried.

It's now 5.25 a.m. and the light is now flashing very fast, also, now no heating, and no hot water. I put radiators on and all cold even after half an hour.

Thanks for your help, unfortunately the manual doesn't really help, I have had a heating engineer out and he thinks the power outage has possibly blown a fuse in the board. He is trying to get advice from Gledhill but not having a lot of luck, his company refuse to accept Gledhill Boilermates onto their care plan package as they have had so many problems with the company - encouraging, not.
Hi is contacting Gledhill today to try to get access to what all the fault codes mean, so hopefully this will help. I have discovered since yesterday that 3 of my neighbours, out of 5, have all had problems with their boilermate too, 1 of which is an ongoing complaint.

The red flashing light points to overheat.
In the manual are fault codes.
There are 3 sensors which could be the cause of it.
Gledhill has a technical line which costs 60p per minute.
So no excuse really why anyone can not get the information they require.
Sometimes the trouble starts from when they are installed by the builders / plumbers.
The biggest mistake being not enough inhibitor / protector put into the systems / units.
All of which are in the book, but alas no one reads!
There is a fuse on the board, did he test it?
I know lots of guys who mend boilers and are very good at doing their job.
But they do not mend Gledhills. But they know that I do.
Encouraging not is some one who thinks a fuse may have blown, but not tested.
How old are the units?
What part of the UK are you?
Who were the builders / installers?

I'm in Fife, Scotland and the buliders were Millar Homes, i've been in touch with them and they have given me the number of the engineer they use so will wait to see what my engineer says today, thought he would have been in touch by now to be honest and I don't know if he tested the fuse or not, but he seemed to really know what he was talking about. I saved the manual so will print it out for him but if no joy by this afternoon I will phone the one the builder suggested although he is a lot further away from me so presumably the call out charge will be even more. Again, thank you for all your help.

I don't have a paper manual and have read through the one on the link you gave but don't see anything about fault codes, I'm looking at the one for the Boilermate OV A- class.
