Help - Have no heating

Post  Cathie from Glasgow on Mon Apr 08, 2013 11:57 am

I really need help. I have had no heating for 4 weeks

Boiler started making loud noises like it was over boiling, then the system stopped heating. The emergency switch system works for both heating and water.

Background
I have had 4 plumbers out. First one changed a pump, which didn't work then said the system needed a power flush. Second plumber from same company came out to do power flush said it couldn't be done to that type of system. He recommended a new valve. Another company came drained system said it was clear and then fitted new valve. Still did not work. The another gas engineer came and said it was the Glow Worm boiler that was the problem. Said the fan needed replacing because it made a noise (but I could't hear it). The ignition light would come on then it would fire-up the system but quickly cut out. He did manage to get it to run (but that lasted 24 hrs) but said it wasn't worth fitting a new fan, it needed a whole new boiler. When the system was running for that 24hrs, the heating was blasting out and I could not control the individual radiators - only managed to turn it down with the thermostat in the hall - but it made that boiling noise again then packed in. I can't see any gas light in the boiler.

Is the gas engineer right - do I need a new boiler or is there something that they have all missed? Sorry if I have not explained myself well but I don't know anything about this.

Grateful for any advice.

There is lots of information posted on here.
Look in the BM 2000 section.
List of advertisers on the home page.
Google up Gledhill repairer for your area.
Or call Gledhill and see if they can help you or recommend some one.
The BM 2000 do suffer with sludge / blockages.

This sounds like a problem with your PCB, get a new PCB ant this I guess will fix your problem, if you are on a budged, you also can try a refurbished PCB for about £80 to£120( you have to send your old pcb back in) I came across this problem sometimes at customers in my area. Is not complicated to change.
I hope this helps

Mike & Mario

Thank you very much for taking the time to give advice. I will look at getting a new PCB and see how that works. I will let you know how that goes.

I disagree with the PCB at this stage.
With ref to the radiators, you could control them with the room stat. But not the individual rads.
Did you turn them off at the TRV or valve?
I think when all is running as in boiler and heating it works.
But take the heating away and you get the boiler noise.
That sounds like too much heat not being removed from the boiler quick enough.
Could be boiler pump, boiler pipe work and valve blocked partiality.
Try running the boiler on a lower setting.
If you do go for a new / re con PCB DO NOT TOUCH IT WITH YOUR HANDS as static from you can damage them.
I use gloves. And follow the instructions too.
There is a post on here describing exactly how to fit one.
Well worth a read.

Hi Mike

I tried to turn the radiators off at the values on the radiator. I will have a go at lowering the temperature. I did see your ealier posts about fitting a PCB and using gloves, thanks.

Really appreciate the advice . Cathie.
