Hi there,

I was just wondering if you would be able to help at all?

We have moved into a new flat and have no clue how this Pulsacoil A class works. The manual is very complicated and does not explain how to set it up clearly unforutuentely.

Am i right in thinking that the orange light comes on ‘off-peak’ (12-7am) whereby your water is heated and gives you enough for the following day? Then if you need more hot water you use the booster (setting it to an hour with the 1 hour timer)?

Are main oncerns are:

• There appears to be two timers. 1 black clock timer – is this just set to the time of the day and therefore there is no need to move this? And a cream timer which is set for 1 hour when you put it onto start? What is this for?
• Our booster takes from 45-1hr for the water to be hot again. This cannot be right or else it would be pointless when we need a shower there and then?
• How much water is kept hot as we have run out 3 times in the space of 4 days?

We would really apprecatie any information you could give us?

Mnay thanks

Off peak needs to be on for the "7" hour off peak period.
Boost on the A class is switched on using the black button on the top right of the unit.
If the unit is hot, boost will not work.
Also depends on how your has been fitted ref time clock etc.
Try asking a neighbour!

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your response.....

We have asked a x2 neighbours and they have actually said the system is awful and you only get a little amount of hot water daily!! We have been advised to 'use it wisely'. Obviously this is so upsetting given after our x2 quick showers we cannot wash dishes, use dishwasher, have a bath etc in the afternoon/evening and hot water is a necessity.

When the water is cold, we have used the booster and it takes 45-1 hour to heat up?
We had no hot water at all this morning which i cannot fathom? And even using the booster then is not an option when we have to leave for work 30 minutes later.

Our neighbour advised that the system has been set so the water is heated from 1-5am. We were told not to move our settings i.e the clock which shows the time of day and the switch which is set to 'timed' as opposed to 'off peak'.

Do you know what the problem is? We don't know what to do. Nobody we know has an electric heater and reading up on it, does not explain what is happening or how/if we can change settings/have more hot water in the day?

Thanks Mike

Well how big is the unit?
It may be under sized!
Not by Gledhill but buy the builders etc.
E 7 means 7 hours not 5!
As to the settings for your unit much has been posted about them.
If the unit is small, read the book to see which one Gledhill would recommend.
Then see if you can get E 10 10 hours off peak.
And yes it will take an hour to heat up on the boost.
You have a thermal store not an instant water heater.
Try to read the user instructions it does explain.
And then the manual.
There could be lots of reasons why you are not getting enough DHW.
As I have said so many times before if you state where you are located them some one might offer some help.
Home page list of advertisers.
Or Google up for one in your area.
Any half decent sparky should be able to check the off peak / on peak set up etc.

Well we live in a 2 bedroom flat in St Albans. 1 bathroom and 1 en-suite. I think its the PCA 185 based on the flat.

We have been left the pulsacoil 'design, installation and servicing instructions' which i have read inside out and i am none the wiser.

Again, we had no hot water this morning. However we used the booster this weekend and i was amazed that i actually had enough hot water to have a bath. The management company 'do not know anything about the boilers' so we are left to organise ourselves. We would have to take the front of the boiler off to see if we can notice a problem with the set up here but all the manuals we have read advise only an electrician should open it up? We still don't know what the tariff is, as it says E7 on the actual boiler, does this mean it is automatically set up as Economy 7 or do we have to confirm this with the electric company?

A neighbour said there is a timer by our meter readings which will determine what time our 'off peak' has been set up to? However the orange 'off peak' light never comes on. We are trying to arrange access to see the readings asap which is down in the basement i believe. Would we then change these settings/times to correspond with what our electric company is offering?

Basically there seems to be a load of problems and we don't know who would sort out what? e.g electric company, electrician or if we could do it ourselves. We don't want to spend money for something we don't need to but the boiler is so unpredictable i assume there must be a problem?

User instructions
Down load for free from Gledhill.
All units are the same
The installation can be different ref control and time clocks.
Have you just bought the flat?

If you have a 185 litre model
Then you should have plenty of water.
Could be a supply / meter problem
Could be a unit problem
Could be a user problem.
I take you have checked the header tank!

Hi Mike,

Thanks again for getting back to me....

- We moved in 10 days ago.
- There is no information anywhere on how it was set up in terms of timings? There is no clock downstairs by the metre to see if it tally's up with the clock in the cupboard (next to the boiler) which indicates the time of day and says summer/winter time. So we are unsure 1. how the boiler knows to come on at the off peak times in the night (please advise) and 2. what the off peak times are.
- We have checked the tank and it has over half of the water left in it.

- Checked the electricity last night and we have used 280 KW already (and we have only used the booster twice, have had no hot water for about 5 of the days and hardly used electrics or heating)
- We had no hot water all day y'day or again this morning?
- Our orange 'off peak' light never comes on - is this normal?
- I called EDF y'day to discuss. The gentleman implied that E7 may not be the best option for us. He also said he could not help in terms of the times on the meter and whether they have been set up correctly to ensure the heater comes on in the 'off peak times'. Who would i therefore check this with?

Thanks Mike
