kettling boiler
Hi, I have boiler mate II and my boiler is kettling and making horrendous banging noises. I have been advised I need to add some boiler noise reducer to the expansion tank to go through the system. My boiler mate has a tank at the top of it (there is no tank in my loft). Would I put these chemicals into the tank at the top of the boiler mate? And is that all I need to do? Any advice would be appreciated as I don't have the money to pay for someone to come out and do it.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: kettling boiler
You need to isolate the supply to the header tank.
Then drain water from the unit and empty the header tank.
Then drain the unit further as you need to add the silencer into the unit / system and boiler.
You will need 1 litre for every 100 litres.
Size of BM II ?
How many rads? 10 rads = 1 litre on average.
So if unit is 125 litres and 10 rads that would be 2.25 litres (3 litres)
BUT
It may pay to drain the whole system and see what you get.
Black is ok.
Brown means sludge.
If brown, then perhaps a sludge remover first.
Leave in for no more than a month.
Then drain and flush the system.
If ok then add the silencer
And inhibitor too.
Both the above needs to be the 1 litre to 100 litre.
There are pit falls in carrying out all the above though.
But it does take time and money if someone does it for you.
Read through the posts on here, more so mine as I have covered this before.
No doubt someone will add another post after mine.
