Boiler silencer Empty Boiler silencer

Post  markymark Fri Dec 20, 2013 8:17 am

Hi,

I've just had my boiler serviced by British Gas, it's a ideal classic with Boilermate 2000 system, as the boiler has been making some very strange noises recently and he has said boiler is all OK, but has said that some silencer treatment would help reduce/eliminate the knocking and banging. What is the best boiler silencer treatment to use with this system and how much do I need? I've looked on line and found Fernox DS-40 and F2 Silenecer, but not sure what is best/most compatible with my set up?

I did replace the heat exchanger a couple of months ago, so drained the system down, but didn't add anything to the system when I refilled it. Should I have?

Thanks, Mark

Hi
The Gledhill products are all tested for Fernox products, F2 or DS40 would work. You have to treat the system all time you have drained it at least with MB1 Fernox. You need, depending on ,how many radiators and the capacity of you Boilermate ( normally 2 bottles, one for radiator and one for the Boilermate) in the gray/ black F&E Tank.
kind regards Mario at Mario's Boiler Service

I would not use DS40 as it would be to aggressive. And it is a cleaner.
You are talking about boiler silencer.
You need 1 litre to every 100 litres of water in the system.
This includes the unit.
The boiler and rads.
So you would need a min of 2 but may by more depending on unit size?
And rads, as a rough guide 1 litre to every 10 rads.
Sentinel do a good boiler silencer.
Or Fernox.
And indeed many others.
