Power Flush and New Cylinder?

Post  Jane monehen on Tue Feb 25, 2014 10:21 am

I had a British Gas engineer out today to do my annual service on my boiler (glow worm micron). I mentioned to him my leaking overflow pipe from our Gledhill Boilermate 2000. He had a quick look (out of kindness as British Gas do not cover this) and says that as it is not overflowing (the water is a good bit below the overflow pipe) then it must mean that the system is backing up with water causing it to overflow. He thinks that I will need a power flush as well as a new cylinder as this is basically the beginning of the end for the system. My question is, is he right, should I start saving??

Well it could be a leak on the inner coil.
Which can / could cause the BM to overflow.
How old?
It may be worth draining the unit, this will tell you a lot.
And perhaps refilling and adding a few litres of cleaner.

Hi Mike, the system is 13 years old. If it is worth saving then I will get on the hunt for an engineer in our area who knows what he's talking about. Every British Gas engineer that has been has no idea about them

Well I would look at trying what I have written.
List of advertisers on home page.
Look on there.
Or Google up Gledhill repairs for your area.
Or Boiler mate etc etc repairs or repairer.
