Hot water only with boost

Hot water only with boost Empty Hot water only with boost

Moved into our new flat with a Pulsacoil A Class and can only get hot water using the unit's boost function.

The unit is connected to a wall timer (set to "7" timings) and is currently set to 'timed'. The unit itself does not have a fault light and the water tank is fine. But it's clearly not drawing any heat other than when the boost is activated, however - taps run cold all day etc.

Any ideas?

This is usually a failed power relay. Easy to fix. Take the front off and look for the burned wires to find it!

Are you thinking of fixing this yourself or are you looking for someone from here to visit?

An added wrinkle - we've discovered that warm water is leaking from our shower head (even when the shower is off and set to cold) so we think that is where the hot water may be going after getting heated overnight. It would explain why there's none in the evening when we get home.

At the rate of the leak it looks like it could fill a tub in about 12 hours - presumably this would be enough to use up the hot water?

Hi Skowhegan
Yes this certainly could waist all your hot water away. Try to turn the main stopcock for the water in your property off over night and back on in the morning and try out if you get hot water than, if yes, this is your tap, so change it ASAP. If not, could be the OP relay

I can see two shutoffs next to the Pulsacoil - one labelled hot water and another labelled cold. Should I turn off both?

If you have those two, the hot water should be doing the trick.

And I'd add, the fact that the shower mixer is dripping warm water when set to cold shows the fault lies in the shower mixer. Two faults in fact!

1) The mixer is failing to draw cold-only water when set to COLD

2) The mixer on/off valve does not work.

I'd say get the shower mixer repaired regardless as you'll be paying via your water meter for all the water dripping down the drain.
