Leak from bottom AND having to frequently fill up top tank

Post  KSG1981 on Mon May 19, 2014 8:15 am

Hi,

I've recently noticed that my Pulsacoil A Class is leaking from the bottom. The leak appears to get significantly worse when I use hot water. For example, just before having a shower I checked the floor by the boiler. It was a little damp there, and so I wiped that up. After having a shower I checked again, and there was a small puddle of water there.

In addition to this, I'm having to regularly fill up the plastic tank sitting on top of the boiler - if this runs too low the boiler stops producing hot water.

Given these problems, what do people think is the likely cause of the problem? And broadly how much will it cost me to get it fixed?

Many thanks,
Karl

Have you took the front cover off and looked?

No, and unfortunately don't have the means to do so...

2 screws hold the cover on.
Undo and lift up.
You may see where the water is coming from.
It could be something simple or terminal.

Hi Karl
Without investigation where the leak is coming from, is hard to say how much this will cost, (as if you call in the garage for your car and say, it stops running, how much is the repair). Could be just a washer on the exchanger, or a Pump valve, or as worst scenario, a new Boiler is needed. So from about £100 to £1800. I hope this helps
Kind regards Master Mario at Mario’s Boiler Service
