Heating does not come on on the timer - have replaced timer to no avail
Hi,
My Boilermate 2000 doesn't switch the heating on on the timer.
we can use the override switch to set the heating to be permamantly on, but this isn't ideal of course.
Logic tells me, if the overrride works, then the heating function works. It wasn't coming on on the timer when it should, so the timer unit was faulty.
I've had a new timer fitted, but the problem hasn't resolved.
There's no problem with the hot water function.
Please advise?
Thanks

On the clock you have;
Off
Timed
On
All works in the on position?

thanks for responding so quickly.
No, the On position on the clock switch doesn't turn the heating on either (even on the newly replaced timer unit).
the clock unit is turning/keeping time.

Re: Heating does not come on on the timer - have replaced timer to no avail
Well how are you getting the heating on ?
Re: Heating does not come on on the timer - have replaced timer to no avail
using the override setting (the turnable switch with 3 settings to the left of the timer unit) - bottom being normal, one click up for "permanant hot water", and the next click up we're using to switch the heating on to "permanant" when we want it on.
this is what's confusing me as this works, puts the heating on straight away and all radiators heat up quickly, so the heating doesn't have a problem working, it just doesn't come on via the timer unit - which is why i replaced the timer unit assuming that must be the faulty link in the chain, but no...
Any ideas?
thanks.

You are using the emergency back up "switch"
If you put the knob to normal does the unit heat up via the boiler?
Does the hot water work then too? (if the unit is hot)
Remember if the unit is below 60c then heating will NOT work.
If the boiler is working what setting have you got it on?

Re: Heating does not come on on the timer - have replaced timer to no avail
the boiler in the kitchen works, yep, hot water supply is fine, and the boilermate unit in the airing cupboard (whith the replaced timer unit on) is warm to touch all the time - how do i tell if it is above 60 degrees though, and if it is below, how do i adjust it?
the setting on the boiler unit in the kichen is always set to Maximum.
cheers

On top of the Bm are 2 pipes.
Grab the big one if you can hold it then not hot enough.

ok, thanks.
so assuming that is the case that the temperature isn't high enough, what would be the next step to take/fix recommended please?

Re: Heating does not come on on the timer - have replaced timer to no avail
If the unit is hot.
And the boiler is on MAX and working.
And you have hot water using the normal switch.
NOT the back up!
Then I would suggest you check out the Main ACB / fault codes and displays.
And the heating pump.
All the above are covered in the BM 2000 section on here.
Also as I have stated many times before it does help if you add your location.
As an engineer may offer help with in your area.
But you must fully read your books on the unit.
And the more posts on here you read the more you will learn.

Re: Heating does not come on on the timer - have replaced timer to no avail
The hot pipe at the top of the unit is hot, but not so hot i can't hold it, so this may be the problem as you say - the water store isn't hot enough to kick the heating on.
Strangely, yesterday morning the heating DID come on on the timer, but this morning after changing nothoing, it didn't.
There are 3 green lights on the circuit board when the unit is set on the timer as shown on the attached picture..
The electronic display doesn't show anything though, after pressing either of the 2 buttons next to it either, so assume this is a problem/this is what would show me the temperature of the unit and would show if it was below the 60 degree threshold.
The heating pump is hot to touch.
What do you suggest i do next please? Location has been added to profile as suggested.
thanks

If you have no display on your pcb, the pcb is faulty, probably was rather then your clock. You need a new GT155 pcb.
I hope this info helps

Re: Heating does not come on on the timer - have replaced timer to no avail
Thanks Mario.
Just to make things more interesting (confusing), this morning the heating kindly decided to come on on the timer. So I checked the display when i got up and it was working, showing "ON" with 2 lines/dashes to the left of the word ON. When i moved the timer round so the heating turned off, one of these lines went out, but ON remained showing.
Its clear(ish) that the PCB is dodgy, but does this sound like it needs replacing, or perhaps just something as simple as a loose wiring/just in need of a service sort of thing?
Appreciate your help.

Re: Heating does not come on on the timer - have replaced timer to no avail
Hi Mario (and anyone else interested)
Thanks for your help back a few months ago to do diagnostics. - really appreciated.
I have since had the whole system replaced to a new combi system.
This does mean i have a pretty much brand new timer clock (XB215 is the part number i think), wth the box (and the old one which still works too as was never the problem) which i kept back when they took it all away, as it cost me £80...
I've put it on ebay, but as you kindly helped me out, i'd be happy to sell it to you if you can make use of it, for a cut price.
Let me know if so,
Cheers

Yes sounds like the main ACB.
But you will NOT get heating if the unit temperature is below 60c
