Boilermate II - continuously demanding "heat"
moved into our "new" house in April - its a 2000 ish build house - and has a Potterton Suprima 60 (I believe) attached to a Boilermate II
the problem is - that the Boilermate II continuously demands heat - green light stays on all the time - and boiler continously "cycles" - comes on for about 30 seconds - 1 min - then turns off - but still shows that it is being asked for heat
paid a gas engineer to service the boiler - nothing untoward found - but he checked outlet temps from Potterton - and with his clip meter device it was showing about 75-76C max - against what he thought should be up to about 80 ? he changed one of the thermostats on the Boiler the "temperature sensor" - but made no difference at all
the boiler had a new PCB fitted just before we moved in - I believe its the "latest version"
it seems with no demands to the system, the Boilermate always asks for heat - the Potterton fires up, gets to its cut off temp, then turns off - still showing it needs heat - but its hit its max temp - when it then gets down to say 71C or so - it fires back up
I checked the header tank for the system on the top floor and whilst there seems to be some water in there - not a lot - maybe a cm or so deep ?
occasionally we get a loud "buzz" from the Boilermate - but its only once per day max and only for about 2 seconds
atm the pump on the Boilermate is always running, plus the gas is on and off all day - so we're using a lot of gas and electricity up. Our gas engineer was unsure where to go from here.
I can only think
(1) the Potterton PCB is at fault - and not getting to temp therefore Boilermate II never thinks its at temp
(2) the Boilermate II thermostat is stuck
I guess its all down to whether 75-76C from the Boiler is sufficient
we always have plenty of hot water and radiators
thanks for any help - would be very much appreciated.

Re: Boilermate II - continuously demanding "heat"
for interest I found what I assume is an old (hard to tell) Thermostat for the Boilermate II, and a Delay PCB - both in bubble wrap in the airing cupboard
presumably this means they have been changed before - or were bought and not fitted (less likely)
is the Thermostat a "dry change" with just push fit connectors (obivously with system electrically isolated) - or something I'd really need a plumber in for ?
since 24/7 pump -for now I've changed the pump to position 2 (for the boiler loop) - it seems to have dramatically reduced noise - and also is using 35W less - which for something which atm is on 24/7 is a reasonable saving
thanks

Re: Boilermate II - continuously demanding "heat"
Here's a link to the manual - see page 14.
http://www.gledhill-response.net/documents/boilermateii-scanned.pdf
It does sound like the thermostat - listed as "store t'stat" in Figure 16.
The buzzing sound is because the PCB capacitor has dried out. You can either solder in a new capacitor (about 90p from Maplins) or buy an entirely new replacement board through eBay.
The pump needs to be at maximum and the temperature at the boiler needs to be at maximum too for efficiency (after you've fixed the thermostat of course).
