boilermate with air source heat pump
Does anyone know if a boilermate 2000 can be adapted to be used with an air source heat pump as the only heat/boiler source?
The output water temp from the ASHP would be max about 60 degrees C. Could the boilermate contols be changed to switch off ASHP when store reaches this temp and switch on again at a lower temp, say 45 degrees. What effect would this have on the DHW heat exchanger side of things?

Re: boilermate with air source heat pump
Hi Will,
The Boilermate 2000 calibrates itself to match the boiler it's connected to. It calls for heat up to just below the temp at which the boiler shuts down, and calls for heat when the store falls a few dgreees below this.
So it would learn to stop calling for heat at about 58 degrees C, but the logic latch that holds the heating OFF until the store reaches 65 degrees C means the heating would never come ON. Hot water performance would be feeble too.
In summary, no it wouldn't work!
Cheers, Mike

Air source heat pump
Gledhill have linked up with Mitsubishi and have produced the Boilermate HP-DEM to match the Mitsubishi Ecodan air source heat pump.
Unfortunately the Boilermate 2000 will not work correctly with the ASHP. The Boilermate HP-DEM is different to the 2000 as it is actually an unvented cylinder instead of a thermal store, and the electronics have been especially designed to work with an ASHP.
It is possible to replace the Boilernmate 2000 with the HP-DEM and an ASHP, although the cost involved would be prohibitive.
