No Hot Water - any clues?

Hi all

My elderly mother recently moved into a new flat with a Pulsacoil 2000 boiler. Initially she had no hot water but I discovered the header tank was low (the flat had remained empty for some time previously) so I filled it up and she got hot water for a month. Then it went cold again. I noticed the header tank was very low again (since discovered there is a slow leak at the bottom of the tank), and also noticed the light on the Off Peak spur had gone out. I couldn't remove the fuse on the spur because it seemed to have melted so I replaced the spur. I got hot water for a day or so (a bath and a shower) and it went cold again. I get very tepid water when I first turn the tap and that's it.

Both external red and green LED's are out. The red LED on the circuit board is flashing twice per second. I'm about to call out an engineer but does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

I should also note my brother recently changed the timer settings on the wall as we originally thought it was set to off-peak. A heating salesman had visited the flat (to discuss electric wall heaters) and had claimed the boiler was heating 24/7!

Check the unit for leaks
Check the heaters for leaks at rod stat pockets.
Other than that if the unit is not hot.
Then check
Time controls
Any switches / fuses
Heaters & stats
Any relays if fitted

Thanks for the response. In the end I chose to replace both immersion heaters and that seemed to have done the trick.

My mother has a shower in the morning and washes up a couple of times a day, would a couple of hours heating a day be sufficient for the 170L capacity?

Why?
Heat it up on E7.
When heated to full capacity it will stop.
Might take 2 3 4 hours.
Once hot it will stay hot unless used.
Bit of heat loss but not much.
Thermal store is the clue here.
It needs to be hot 70 plus c
To work correctly.

Ok, thanks for the info, I didn't know that.

My mum has electric heaters and obviously stays in the flat 24/7 so we put her on a day tariff for the time being. We're looking into fitting some storage heaters so she can go back on E7.

So ideally one would heat the Pulsa each night (on E7) with a timer for 2-3 hours, and eventually when fully heated to capacity it will stop until temp drops again, or it runs low of hot water? How can I tell when the boiler is fully heated? I guess even if the timer is 'on' the Pulsa won't heat if it doesn't need to?

Apologies for the questions Mike. Is there an online manual I can consult?

When it is hot. The thermostat inside the heater switches it off.
So if on for 7 hours it may heat up in 2, 3, 4, 5 or what ever. Depending on usage.
