H/W but no Heating
Hi,
I have a boiler mate 2000 running with an ideal classic boiler (9 years old) – about 10 days ago the boiler broke down and we switched to the electrical backup on the Boliermate – This ran for about a week before the Boilermate tripped the mains and would only work in normal mode but of course the boiler was not firing meaning no heating or hot water at all – every time I switch to h/w or h/w & c/h in switch mode it trips the power of blows the fuse.
We got British Gas in today who have got the boiler working (the fan needs/needed replacing) they lubricated fan as temp fix and returning tomorrow with a new fan. This has given us hot water in normal mode (which is the only setting we can now use without blowing!) but still no HEATING.
Getting a PHE sensor error but when I run the hot water tap this gives a reading – when I switch tap off this goes back to error. Have an electrician/friend who is not familiar with this system but says if we can locate problem would be happy to fit part - From the posts here not sure if should be thinking about replacing the PHE sensor? And/or control board or we are on the wrong track??
Limited funds till end of month but with kids + weather don’t want to order unnecessary parts (especially the control board!) and desperately need the most cost effective (even if means short-term) fix.
Thanks for any help

Re: H/W but no Heating
1. check that the centre pump [ heating pump ] is free running
2. check the store temp at what point does it call for heat and when is it satisfied
below 60 degrees the heating pump WILL NOT RUN
3 dhw / return sensor will not affect heating side of things.
hope this helps

Re: H/W but no Heating
Hi Mark, Many thanks for getting back - British Gas came back yesterday and fitted new fan to the boiler which did not fix the heating fault (as we suspected anyhow!) - but the great news is that he looked at the boilermate and said he would order parts up which given some of the posts on here was not sure that this would be covered - anyhow has come back today and fitted a new sensor apparently this was still giving erratic readings and the store temp was not being reached (although cured the sensor error) - as a temp fix he has wired the heating to work direct off the thermostat and we now have heating and hot water
He is coming back next week with an engineer who is familiar with these models for further diagnostics. Not sure if this is a new scheme from British Gas but I would suggest from a cost prospective that people look at the homecare cover British Gas offer- we paid £100 and then will be £20 per month and both units are covered (Ideal Classic + Boilermate 2000) and 1st visit was next day - if you get someone who says they won’t touch the Boiler Mate I would call British Gas and insist as they clearly do with parts in stock!! For reference we in the Maidstone area and our engineer was great!!
