strange DHW sensor connection spout - is this normal?

Hi Mike,

thanks for your advice. I bought a DHW sensor yesterday and attempted to fit it today. There is a brass threaded fitting with a brass nodule on the end of the one I purchased but the one I attempted to replace was just a wire with what seemed to be some kind of coating on the end. This was held into a 10-12mm outlet / spout with a small rubber tube-like seal. I have attached a pic so you can see how the existing sensor fits in to the DHW out pipe.

Not sure what to do and if my pipes are unusual for this particular model (Pulsacoil 2000).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The sensor your talking about is the "PHE return sensor" to the P.S.C (the circuit board to the top right), which is attached to the pump, the one you have just bought is for the pipe labeled "hot supply to taps", which is the "DHW Temp Sensor", to replace this one, you need to switch off power to unit, turn off you water mains (via stop cock) then open a tap to drop the pressure, then unscrew the sensor from the pipe, and remove the other end of the cable from the circuit board. Attache new cable, turn on power, switch water mains back on.

The pulsacoil 2000 has 2 sensors. PHE Return Sensor (Wire Head with rubber grommet, which attaches to the pipe on the pump) and the DHW Temp Sensor (Brass Head which attached to the hot water supply pipe coming from the Heat Exchanger).
