Boilermate and Water Softener Empty Boilermate and Water Softener

Hello All,

So, new boiler is fitted (Baxi Solo HE) and heating is fine.

I had an issue with hot water supply but (thanks to this forum) sorted it by descaling the boilermate secondary coil and fitting a pressure limiting valve (the pressure was above 5bar! the water did not spend enough time in the cylinder to get hot enough). The mixing valve seemed to be in good condition.

I'm now thinking of fitting a water softener in the whole house (looking at the Harvey/Crown/MinMax twin cylinder model). Is that really going to help with the hot water supply in the longer run?

I have also noticed references to ScaleNet (non-salt conditioner by Watts in the US). Have you had any expirience (good / bad) with this?

Regards,

Hi kakourdos,

There are plenty of scale inhibiting devices on the market but I descale Gledhills with it seems, pretty much any of them installed so I conclude they don't really work very well, if at all.

The only device guranteed to stop scaling is a proper resin bed water softener, the type you put salt in. Provided you DO actually put the salt in or course!

Cheers, Mike
