Hard water

Post  SimonL on Tue May 11, 2010 8:03 am

Please help this problem is driving me mad...

Basically our pulsacoil (2 bed flat) seems to give us extremely hard water - it leaves skin and hair dry dull and extremely irritated; clothes only last a few washes before they discolour. I realise you probably think I'm mad too - but honestly my skin washes so much better anywhere else - it's really just the flat. It also leaves a red brown residue if this has anything to do with it, and the bath tap does not run hot for more than a few seconds.

I am loathe to spend money on a plumber if he cannot help/just thinks I'm mad too.

As a further clue, if the water to the flat gets turned off, then I do not notice the water quality being bad for a few days. It's all a complete enigma.

If anyone can help I would be very very grateful.

Best

another thing is the water doesn't feel 'fresh' - wonder if there is an electronic loop problem going on or something?!

Hi Simon

The Pulsacoil doesn't MAKE hard water, it simply heats the water that is supplied to it from your local water authority. If you live in a hard water area, you may well benefit from a water softner or an elctronic scale reducer being fitted to your cold water supply straight after your stop tap.

Check how hard your water is by telephoning your local water authority (over 200ppm - parts per million - is considered to be hard water) and some form of softner/scale reducer is recommended.

Kind regards
