Plumber drained system now BM2000 won't fill? Empty Plumber drained system now BM2000 won't fill?

Post  KRISTALMAZIE Thu Oct 28, 2010 9:19 am

To save my sanity and that of my perplexed plumber does anyone have a method of refilling the BM2000 tank once the heating system has been drained please? He drained the system this morning for a couple of hours work (to add 2 radiators) and is still here trying to re-fill the tank. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Amanda

Hi,
Is he still there?
Could be that the fill and expansion pipe has become blocked with corrosion debris, was the system power flushed?
The pipe should be cleared, Some success canbe had using a wet n dry vac on the fill/expansion pipe. but as a temp measure the unit canbe refilled from the drain point, the mt cock should be removed and a quality brass valve and hose union fitted. Add your corrosion inhibitor via the vent or a radiator.
Fill until water is seen flowing from the vent pipe, bleed the rads and top up. leave the header tank empty as the unit will eject some water on reheat. Do not allow anything to block the vent or the unit may split.

Hi;
I would say the vent is open.
If the cold feed and the vent were both blocked, then when draining the unit it would have imploded or gone inwards.
You can try filling the unit up via the vent.
Or via the drain off at the bottom of the unit as stated in previous post.
Some sludge remover can also be poured down the cold fill pipe and down the vent add at least 1 litre or if a 185 litre unit 2 litres.
Leave in and run for 2 to 4 weeks and drain, check all is clear.
Refill add inhibitor again 1 to 2 litres.
Make sure all is ok before doing so, if not you will lose it if draining again later.
