Gledhill pulsacoil A Class Empty Gledhill pulsacoil A Class

Hello all, Please help me

I bought a new house which had a gladhill pulsacoil A class installed. The builder returned a few weeks after and said that it was wired up wrong and he wired it differently. I then experienced that I had no hot water about a year later and the red LED light was flashing indicating immersian heater failure. I called a boiler expert out who deals with these types of boilers which he said that it must of had a glitch in the system but said that it was not wired up to manufacturers specification and should be wired alot differently.
I contacted the NHBC as the builder refused to come back, which they sent an electrician round to fix it. Originally it was wired up to one fuse socket and wired to one fuse on the fuse board downstairs. The electrican suggested that I speak to my electric compnay to have economay 7 installed, butwhen I spoke to EON, they stated that it was not in my interests as my fuel bill would go up and I would not beneift from economy 7, but suggested that I advise the electrician to place a timer on the circuit instead.
The electrician came and wired the boiler up to two fuse sockets I imagine one for each immersion and wired it to two separate fuses on the fuse board downstairs. He also placed a timer on the circuit which he said I dont need to touch.
Now every day since I have experienced continuous cold water in the evening from aroud 1800 and the LED on the boiler flashing showing immersion heater failure. When I press the override button the red light stays on continuous and a few hours later I start to get hot water and the red LED light goes off (Until the next day which repeats this process).
Please help me, Is my boiler faulty or am I doing somthing wrong or getting wrong advise off electrians, and if the boiler was not properly wired up to manufacturers specification in the beginning, whould this void Gledhills warranty on the boiler?

Heloo mrreid1980,

Difficult to comment on this one without seeing and testing the unit, but it sounds as though your electrician has wired it up correctly at last. You definitely WOULD benefit from being on Economy 7 though!

I think your Pulsacoil probably now has a burned out power relay. This is a very common fault and a relay upgrade kit is available to fix it.

Hello Mike, Thankyou for your reply.

Now that the boiler is wired up to two fuses. A Gledhill specialist came out and tested the boiler and fitted a new circuit board as it was faulty. Now my new problem only days after him coming is I now have no hot water at all any point of the day, the boiler is making a drowning noise day and night and the boiler itself is stone cold. I am waiting for another person to come out to look at it which they believe it may be the pump which has gone wrong and there is no red light flashing either this time.

A 'drowning noise'? I'm completely mystified. Is the header tank on top of the unit correctly filled to the marker line moulded into the wall of the tank? Are you sure your Pulsacoil is a "Pulsacoil A-Class" not a "Pulsacoil III" or a Pulsacoil 2000"? How old is it?

In addition, the A-Class circuit board rarely fails so I doubt this was ever the problem. What part of the country are you in? I'd like to see this one if it really IS an A'Class!

The absence of any red light on the circuit board suggests there is no power supply to it, or board failure. How do you know the board was changed? Did you see it being done and did you keep the old board?

Have you called this engineer back? What did he say?

Hello Mike

Sorry for not returning a reply sooner. My Boiler is now all fixed finally horayyyyyy. We live in Essex.

The Gledhill engineer came and changed the circuit board in front of me as he stated it was faulty.

He then returned with an electrician. The problem was that the clock was not working properly and the fuse needed changing, also there wasnt enough electric going to one of the tanks to heat the water up this being the new wire which they put in for the 2nd emersion! The red light boost button should work if the water runs out during the day if i need a boost.

I left them to it and now I have hot water all day and all night, Ive still not got economy 7 as Eon advised that we would not benifit from it.

The drowning noise was the pump trying to heat water up, but because there wasnt enough electric it just kept trying. I think instead of 240 volts there was barely 80 volts!

Hi have you found your electricity bills are lower with the timer? Both EON and EDF told me i would not benefit from economy 7
