BM2000 terminated . BM BP replacement advice

Hi.

My BM 2000 is gubbed after 5 years ! Water leaking from front grommets so as far as I'm aware it cannot be repaired, firstly can someone just confirm this ?

If this is the case , I need to find the cheapest way to replace the unit , I understand the new unit is the BM BP.

I have a small potterton suprima in my kitchen which feeds the 2000 and I now have my head round how it works with the heating low/return upstairs at the 2000 rather than at the potteron.

Looking at the drawings I would have to alter the pipe work so that the heating flow/return comes off the potterton with tee offs going to the BMBP.

Okay , heres the problem as far as I can see . We could replace 2000 with BP and alter pipe work as per drawing but my plumber doesnt feel the small

potterton will be powerful enough to supply my central heating and BP?????

I'm an electrician so please tell me if I have this wrong but the new system would depend on the kitchen boiler basically supplying heating system and keeping the BP "topped" up with hot water ???

Another plumber I know recommends a 38kw combi ?

I have 3 bed detatched . Main Bathroom has bath and basin
Ensuite has shower and basin
WC has basin
and kitchen .

Any advice is very much appreciated .

You could go for combi.
Or read this post

Explains a bit BP / 2000.
Or you could look at an
Albion Mainsflow which comes as a complete package.
What size boiler have you?
Remember whether BP unit or Albion you can go Y or S plan.
Use a programmer with 3 on's and 3 off per day for Hot water
And the same for Heating.
Then you can have the hot water coming on earlier before the heating, thus not asking any boiler too do too much.
With a combi when some one draws hot or cold water the pressure drops.
Look at the Albion.

The albion , Is this a direct replacement for the 2000?

the 2000 is 175 ltr , I cant make our which size the potteton is as all stickers removed but its a small unit fitted into a standard kitchen wall unit which is
why I'm worried it wont be powerful enough to supply central heating and tank.



I'm an electrician so not sure abour the terms you use s and y plan?

The BP unit are NOT direct or easy to fit replacements for the BM2000.
Down load the information for all 3 and determine which would be the best.
Depends on cupboard size etc.
I would think your boiler is large enough.
But ask your plumber to look inside the boiler, the info will be there!
Or ask a neighbour with a similar property.
Their stickers / labels may be intact.
A Y plan system is one motorised valve which is really a tee shape. Flow in then one tee to heating and one to hot water.
An S plan would be 2 motorised valves flow in and then to hot water or heating.
Go to Honeywell and down load ref Domestic Heating systems.
If you are a Sparky you may have to wire and connect a Y or S plan up one day.
There are other Plans as in C plan, W plan and S plan plus.
I can see you going for a combi, but you may well regret it.
Unless you fit some electric showers!

Mike the suprima is 40l.

What are your thoughts on this combined with either a bp or albion ?
