High bills Empty High bills

Post  shaddy Thu May 12, 2011 1:11 pm

Hi, I live in a new build with a pulsa coil A class boiler. I am trying to cut down on my electricity bills and my energy supplier has said it is probably the boiler that is consuming a lot of electricity since it is always on to maintain a temperature. I have also been told by Gledhill the boiler should be left on. I would therefore like to know the most economical way to operate this boiler. My energy supplier said economy 7 was only any good if I had a storage boiler and could make use of cheap heat.

Hi,

Do you have a single fuse board in your property or two?

If you have a single fuseboard then you could fit a timer on the lower immerion heater to reduce the electricty costs. If you have two fuseboards then check what electricity tariff you are on. Opt for either economy seven or economy 10 as this will be cheaper for you to run the unit.

Kind regards

Gary

I only have one fuse box in my property. Would fitting a timer reduce my bills significantly?

An electrician, It should only be installed on the lower immersion heater. What area are you in ? have you checked out the home page for a local specialist?

I have recently had to fill up the top up tank every 3 to 4 days. does anyone know what might be wrong? I am using more water since there are now more people in the flat is this the reason why i am having to top up the tank so frequently?

This could be due to a leak on the thermal store or that the Immersion heater stats have failed and are causing the unit to continuously kettle and the water is being lost through evaporation.

Is there any signs of moisture (steam) when the unit is on?

Or are there any signs of water leakage below the unit?

Kind regards
