Hotwater fine, heating isn't Empty Hotwater fine, heating isn't

hi, our sysemate 2000 has had a few problems. Around Christmas it failed completely and a local company repaired it by re-wiring it so that it was always on (the thermostat and timer had no effect whatsoever). we called Brisish gas who came round to fix it and said it needed rewiring (which they did) and also said that it was leaking from the bottom (but we couldn't see any leak and even put tissue paper there and couldn't detect an moisture).
Anyway, it now works if you have it on all the time - but the radiators don't get very hot. However, if you use the timer, it only comes on intermittently with the timer and when it does come on, it still doesn't get very hot. British gas won't help because they say it needs replacing and we don't want to go back to the local company. The hotwater is fine.
Any help / suggestions gratefully received

Try the home page for a local engineer, if not try Gledhill themselves.

Kind regards
