Potterton Suprima - LED flashing red
Hi.
We have just moved in to a new house which has a BoilerMate II and Potterton Suprima combination. All of our previous houses just had a combi boiler so this all seems quite new. Anyway, the system is pretty old (installed February '98) and has been there since the house was built.
Since being in there, we have had a few problems such as a noisy pump which sounds like there is some solder in there or something, some radiators were not getting hot and occasionally, we also get a rattling noise which I only seem to be able to resolve by adjusting one of the radiator thermostat control on the top floor (there are 3 floors).
Yesterday, the Potteron boiler decided to stop working altogether and is now just sat there with a red flashing LED. I have tried to turn the power off and back on (I used to work in IT) but it just comes back on, flashes green and amber for about 20 seconds and then reverts to the flashing red. We have no heating or hot water.
I have a few questions really...
Is the flashing red light indicative of a certain problem with the Potterton, or are there a host of problems it could be? What are the chances of someone who is not a Potterton specialist being able to fix this?
Am I best off just biting the bullet and getting an annual repair policy for the Potterton (~£30/month). I am just conscious that, at 15 years old, we could be in for more breakdowns in the next year.
Or, do we try and fix this one issue and then just concentrate on replacing the BoilerMate - I am not sure how well it was maintained before hand, but at 15 years old a lot of people don't seem to want too much to do with it.
Sorry to post so many questions on a first post. I just want to have a reliable system and am curious as to how to get that in the most cost efficient way.
Rich

Re: Potterton Suprima - LED flashing red
With ref to your boiler. Read the book to re set it.
The problem could be the boiler pump on the BM II.
But it all needs checking out.
But you are right it is all getting very old.
The unit could have a blocked cold feed and hence the system is not full.
The rattle can sometimes be the TRV its self.
Look on here for some one in your area.

Or Google up for a Gledhill repairer for your area.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for the reply.
We had a Vedhas engineer visit the property last night and we are hopefully now getting somewhere in relation to finding the fault and a solution. Potterton should be visiting today to see if there are any issues with the boiler as well. We did notice that there was a significant amount of air in the system when we bled the highest radiator last night. I bled this again this morning and, again, there appeared to be a lot of air.
Thanks,
Richard
