Any way to add a ASHP or solar tubes? Empty Any way to add a ASHP or solar tubes?

Quite keen to replace / add to our existing non- condensing boiler with either an Air Source Heat Pump or roof mounted solar heating tubes. I’d rather not replace our system mate 2000 as it’s working fine though is nearly 17 years old now. I understand an ASHP won’t meet the temperature required.

Can anyone think of a way of adding a ASHP or solar heating tubes without binning the system mate?

Thanks

Any way to add a ASHP or solar tubes? Empty ASHP

The issue with ASHP as you have realised is that they do not get the water hot enough only managing about 65 degrees if your lucky. There are systems that use the ASHP in conjunction with boilers but it sounds like an expensive undertaking. There are some other hurdles with ASHP anyway, they really need to be used with very well insulated properties and as the radiators do not get as hot they often need upgrading in rooms. This is why they suit underfloor heating which works well at lower temperatures. Maybe someone will be able to help with other ideas. Link to a hybrid system: https://www.griffithsaircon.co.uk/services/heating/hybridheatpump (still would not work with the Gledhill system as not hot enough on heat pump alone). Regards Murray
