How often should a BM2 be descaled? Empty How often should a BM2 be descaled?

I have a Boilermate 2 (FE180). The relay on the delay timer PCB has been buzzing for the past week. It has now stopped as the delay timer PCB has totally failed. A new one is on order.
While investigating the buzzing, I noticed that the F&E tank had a copper coloured scum on the surface and that the Brawa-mix valve has significant scale build up around the pipe unions. I emptied and refilled (including Fernox) the BM2 in August 2007 when I moved in.

How often should a BM2 be descaled? Empty Descale

Hi the unit its self will not want descaling.
Although the coil which heats the hot water up as it passes through will need to be in time,
The unit can become sludged up though.
More so if no inhibitor has been added to protect it.
Consult your book or down load one from Gledhill.
The scale around the blending valve is where it has leaked in the past.
How much fernox did you put in?
Mike.

Thanks for the reply Mike.
I put Fernox MB-1 in my BM2 in August 2007. I think the Fernox came in 4 litre containers and due to the amount of water in my system I used two containers.
I am in a hard water area, but the BM2 still gives good DHW flow. I suppose then, if the DHW flow becomes reduced and no other causes can be found, I should then consider a descale on the DHW coil inside the BM2?
Is this a specialist activity?
Thanks,
Robin
