Boilermate II capacity compatibility ... help needed! Empty Boilermate II capacity compatibility ... help needed!

Post  james2747 Tue Jul 27, 2010 9:06 pm

I have a Boilermate II of 1993 vintage which although o.k. at the moment, is on its last legs. Mine is Model FE220 1CP, storage capacity 200 litres. I've seen a much younger Boilermate II for sale (second hand) at a decent price which is Model FE120 R/H, storage capacity 120 litres.
Can someone tell me if the units are compatible .. the pic of the newer one looks identical in size to mine .. yet the capacity is rated much lower. Are they physically different in size?
If I bought it just for spares wouldl the pumps (comes with two pumps) / electronic circuit boards be interchangable with my system.
Any info appreciated.

Puzzling. Boilermate IIs certainly vary in physical size. Sound to me as though the one you've found has either the model number or the dimensions misquoted. If the dimensions genuinely match the they will be the same capacity AFAIK. Even if the sizes match they may not be physically comptaible as they came is LH and RH (mirror image) versions! All the bits will be compatible for spares though (except the copper header tank if opposite hand).

Cheers, Mike

Boilermate II capacity compatibility ... help needed! Empty Boilermate II sizes.

Hello Mike
Thanks for your reply ... you sound very knowledgeable on these systems.
I have contacted the seller again and he has 'measured up' his unit.
Even though the photos looked identical to mine, he confirmed the dimensions of his Boilermate were a few centimetres smaller than mine ... so its a no-go on the boiler unit itself but it may be worth buying it just for spare parts.

We have only just moved house and 'acquired' this thermal store system ... can you tell me if this is working as it was designed.

1. The hot water circulation pump never switches off ... even if you don't draw off any water for hours it still runs continuously. My boiler (Ideal Mexico) is set at near maxm. on its thermostat.

2. When you turn either a hot or cold tap on downstairs ... it significantly reduces the flow of water from any upstairs taps ... I thought the system was pressurised by the mains water so it shouldn't do that.

3. When you turn the system on (I turn it off overnight to stop wasting gas) there is an intermittent 'buzzing' sound from the circuit board area ... it sometimes last for over a minute but ultimately it does stop ... any ideas?

Regards
James (in Newark) ... or I'd have you in to look at my system straight away!!!
