Hi Mike, the blue wire connected to the XB501 thermostat on my Pulsa Coil III keeps burning out every few weeks. What could cause this?

Check terminal 9 on the connection block.
If this is loose that could be a factor.
Also check the stat is cutting out when the unit is up to temperature.
All connections must be well made and tight.
And clean

Mike thanks for your reply. The connection to #9 was tight as was the connection to the thermostat and to the wires.

I am wondering whether the wires simply need replacing as they are over 10 years old and possibly at the end of their shelf life? Is this possible?

Also the stat did indeed cut out so in this case, I cut the burnt wire and rescrewed it back and reset the cutout. I am worried though that the wire may burn out again..

Thermostat wire keeps burning out Empty Cable problem.

Post  sunny.sahdev Sat Sep 07, 2013 2:54 am

The 3 most likely reasons a cable will burn are due to high resistance, undersized cable or poor termination. High resistance occurs for many reasons but look out in case you have cut off extra strands of copper. This will reduce the CSA of the cable increasing the resistance and cause it to overheat. Also check the terminal block is not broken or has a crack in it.

I would say poor connection is most likely the case or when your cable burnt previously, you did not completely cut of the damaged part of the cable.

I hope this help.
