element change, does it need to be genuine gledhill Empty element change, does it need to be genuine gledhill

Hi,

Recently replaced the boost element as it wasn't working, however the boiler spares merchant i went to didnt have any genuine gledhill element in stock therefore i went for the cheaper alternative (one third the price).

Know have warm water for short period but isnt hot, also replaced the element stat with the original from the old gledhill element as i thought this maybe dodgy, but no difference.

Any ideas?

thanks

A non-Gledhill element will work perfectly well. They just run a bit more noisily and leasdt a shorter time.

If the unit is not heating up you need to use a multimeter to trace why.

If it IS heating up but not delivering hot water then it will be sensors, pump, control board in that order of likelihood

Cheers, MIke

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply,

Forgot to mention that the off peak element is working fine and am getting hot water, therefore if there was a faulty sensor or pump would that not reflect on this too?

cheers

Yes if the unit works correctly after the overnight heat-up on the off peak heater element, but not when using the boost, then yes a fault still exists with the boost heater. My guess would be a fuse or tripped circuit breaker. The old element failing would have tripped something!

If fuses etc are fine, use a multimeter to discover where in the supply cabling you have electricity, and where it stops.
