Intermittent Hot Water Supply
Hi All, Thanks for putting this forum together it looks like it could be my saviour. i have an intermittent hot water supply problem in the fact the system will only supply hot water to the taps when it feels like it ! Turning the heating thermostat up to kickstart the heating seems to remedy the problem in the short term but it soon relapses back to it's random supply. Does anybody have any idea what it could be ? I'm also looking for a Gledhill specialist in te West Sussex area as the system hasn't been touched since the house was built in 2003 !
Cheers,

Hi,
Have you got the boiler temperature up at max?
I would suggest you get someone to check it but it sounds like your issue is with sensors.
Kind regards

Re: Intermittent Hot Water Supply
Hi Gary Thanks for your reply. Yes the boiler temp is set to max. The heating is working ok just the hot water which has now gone from being an intermitent problem to a permanent one ! Anybody have any contacts in the West Sussex area who can help ? If not any adviceon the ease of changing parts as I'm not too shabby at the old diy etc !

Re: Intermittent Hot Water Supply
Can you check what temperature the systemate is reaching via the PCB board?
Re: Intermittent Hot Water Supply
Hi Mike,
The PCB board just reads ON. How do I check the temperature ?

Press the SW2 button under or to the left of the led screen.

Re: Intermittent Hot Water Supply
Hi Gary, when pressing the sw2 button the display shows 67 then 32 when pressed again then H85 when pressed again before returning to on. It seems to be worse after being left for a period. We first noticed the lack of hot water after a weeks holiday. The supply then became intermittent before stabilising. Then after a 4 day break away we came back to no hot water from the taps yet the heating is working fine ! any ideas ?

Re: Intermittent Hot Water Supply
Sounds like your PHE return sensor has failed and requires replacing.

Re: Intermittent Hot Water Supply
Hi
I've just read the posts that you have left, and the advice given by Gary.
Normally Garys advice is pretty much spot on, but in this instance he has made an error in his diagnosis.
The readings that you gave Gary indicate the following;
1] The first reading is the temperature of the stores water (this is the water that in turn heats the water from your tap)
2] The second reading is the PHE sensor (the temperature of the store water after it has passed through the plate heat exchanger and given its heat to the water from your tap)
3] The third reading is the actual hot water temperature (the temperature of the water that is going to your tap).
The readings that you have listed are 67, 32, and 85. If the store water is only at 67 degrees, then it cannot heat the water to your tap to a temperature of 85 degrees (unless someone has changed the laws of thermodynamics!!).
Your problem is the hot water sensor and not the PHE sensor.
