Boiler/ boilermate running every few hours? Empty Boiler/ boilermate running every few hours?

Post  Sarahwright206 Wed Sep 12, 2012 2:13 am

Hi, I have recently moved into a new house with a potterton suprma boiler and a boilermate 2 upstairs. When we moved in we had the pump running all the time however sorted that by putting the boiler settings to maximum.

The boiler now fires up every 2-3 hours, presumably to keep the water hot. Is this normal? Hot water and heating works fine but just worried about the probable large gas bill landing on my doormat soon!!

Is there anyway I can stop the boiler firing up so frequently?

Many thanks.

If your boiler fires up every 2 to 3 hours.
What are you doing in that time?
Using any hot water?
How long does the boiler run for?
What setting is the BM II stat on.
If you have the winter / summer stat.
Set that up as per the book.
Take a bit of time, but worth it.

It fires up on its own without us using any hot water, and runs for 5 mins or less then the pump runs for a further 5 mins.
The summer/winter dial is right down in the winter the furthest it can go.
What do you mean by 'setting it by the book?'... Sorry I'm not used to these things!
Thanks!

Page 17 in the book. Or manual.
But it seems as if it is just keeping the store hot.
5 minutes every 3 hours is nothing to worry about.
