If your boilermate is randomly running the boiler pump for hours or you don't like it firing up the boiler (wastefully) throughout the day to maintain the store temperature, you can modify it to use the timer to control the hot water.  You would then have to use a modern digital room thermostat to control the heating but it can be done.

There is a link from the permanent live feed to the boilermate pcb, cutting this link and wiring the timer to it then adding the permanent live to the heating which is then controlled by a programmable room thermostat works.

The hot water still works and boiler pump over run works correctly.  I would only advise this if you know what you are doing however.

In a lot of case why the boiler keeps running / firing up is;

Boiler is old / scaled up / dirty system.

Boiler not putting out 80c which is required.
