Boilermate in a puddle Empty Boilermate in a puddle

Post  edgeofinsanity Wed Oct 27, 2010 6:41 pm

I live in an ex-Local Authority house fitted with Baxi Bermuda gas boiler and original Gledhill Boilermate thermal store. Over the last few days I have found water collecting around the base of the Boilermate tank. I have been unable to identify any dripping water from any of the connecting pipework and it looks to my untrained eye as if water is seeping from the tank itself, just below where the electrical cables enter the casing. Is this likely to be caused by a leak from the tank itself and if so is this fixable in any way? Any advice very much appreciated.

Hi
Sorry its terminal if the water is dripping from the case behind the front panel. Have you removed the front panel?
Regards
Paul.

Hi Paul, I took a look there but it all seems dry. Tonight found that one of the connectors to the Brawa valve is also dripping. Just need it to hang on in there until the plumber I know who is familiar with the system is back from his hols. Got towels and newspaper soaking up the water so fingers crossed!
Any suggestions as to what my best move should be? No idea what the cost of a new Boilermate BP tank is and how easy it would be to swap old one out for new or whether now is time to consider new system completely, the Baxi is hardly energy efficient is it, although it does seem simple to maintain.

Perpaps the connector leak from the Brawa valve is the only leak, as for energy conservation and smaller running costs, maybe consider a combination boiler hung on an external wall. Regards Paul.
