Pulsacoil III - top water cistern temperature? Empty Pulsacoil III - top water cistern temperature?

Post  peteinbrum Fri Mar 11, 2011 4:45 am

Hi,

Just looking for a bit of info really as to the normal temperature of the water in the top cistern on the Pulsacoil III in the morning after the night heating?

I filled up the cistern yesterday as the 2 green lights had gone out, which has happened a few times over the years, so I was comfortable that this would fix the problem.

This morning, loads of hot water as normal, but I checked the water in the top cistern and it was pretty hot.....ie, so hot you couldnt dip your hand in it comfortably, and I was just wondering if this is normal?

Thinking it though, Ive never actually checked the temp of the water in the top cistern when the boilers been working OK, as its only when I need to top it up and have cold water that I take the lid off and have a nosey. So I just wanted to check if its normal for the top water cistern to have hot water in it after the main boiler has warmed through the night?

Thanks for the help, Pete

Well the top tank is;
A feed an expansion tank.
So it is there to fill your unit.
And when the unit heats up and expands ( the water) it goes into the top tank.
That is why the water level in the top tank when cold is quite low when cold.
To allow for expansion.
If to high the over flow on the top tank will be used.

Pulsacoil III - top water cistern temperature? Empty Yes it is normal

Hi Pete,

Yes this is normal. If the tank starts to give of lots of steam and your airing cupboard is full of it, then the system is overheating. Make you you place the lid back onto the header tank.
