Banging crashing and gurgling!
Moved into a 12 year old house and inherited a boilermate II and potterton boiler.
All seems to be working fine but for the past 5 hours (yes from 2am!) it has been making some strange noises. Loud bangs, gurgles, crashing noises that last about 10 seconds - sounds a bit like a toilet flushing.
Any ideas if this sounds like a big problem? Expensive problem? Etc. I'm not technical in any way so will need to get someone out to look at it but kinda would like to know what I'm dealing with.
On a positive we still have hot water and heating and I think the banging might be coming from the boiler?
Thanks

Re: Banging crashing and gurgling!
Bit hard to say.
Could be boiler or unit.
Or both.
Checks need to be made.
The unit may be sludged up and or blocked cold feed thus low on water.
Pipes from boiler to unit could be restricted by sludge.
A pump could be faulty.
Lots of things.

Re: Banging crashing and gurgling!
Hi Herbinator
The problem is related to excessive heat in the boiler. This could be caused by heat not getting away from the boiler due to a faulty pump at the Gledhill unit, or a failure of the temperature sensor in the boiler to recognise when to turn off.
From years of experience, I would suggest that it would be the pump. There are two pumps on the Gledhill Boilermate 2, it is the lower of the two that would cause this problem.

Re: Banging crashing and gurgling!
Thanks guys. I've got someone coming to take a look at the boiler tonight as thus seems to be where mist if the banging and crashing is coming from. Seems to be a bit better now the heating is on compared to Tge middle of the night. If boiler doesn't end up benng the problem I'll find a boilermate specialist in the area!
