Boilermate 2000 with Glowworm Micron 60FF boiler on 8 year old house
I'm struggling to come to terms with my plumbers recommendation to get a new boiler after a very short visit so was hoping for a second opinion from someone that knows!
The very few details i have are that the Micron was leaking water the day before we were to go on holiday so I had to leave it without getting it checked. When we returned there was no hot water and the fuse had blown. After replacing the fuse the boiler wouldn't ignite so we called out a plumber (probably should have been a heating engineer! but hindsight and all that...) he uncovered the boiler and noted that the heat exchanger had evidence of corrosion and a leak. So his answer was to get a new boiler. I'll try and attach a pic. There are stickers on the boiler and boilermate that say that sentinel x100 inhibitor was put in when it was installed - so is this really corrosion from inside the heat exchanger after 8 years!
I'm just after someone elses opinion really!

Hi
Without the picture evidence it's difficult to confirm that the heat exchanger is leaking and not one of the connections to it.
I would advise you get a second opinion before proceeding, but be aware that the heat exchanger for that boiler can be replaced as it is available as a spare part.
It's not a cheap job whichever way you go about it, but a repair would be far more cost effective than a replacement.
