Advice on 'holiday' setting
Hi,
We have just moved into a house with a BMII and I was wondering what the general advice is when leaving the property unoccupied for any length of time. I understand that the BoilerMate itself does not store the hot water that comes out the tap, but there must still be some energy overhead from the boiler keeping the water in the thermal store at the designated temperature. Does switching the boiler off for a week or two have any implication on the system, other than the risk of freezing pipes etc or is there an alternative way to keep the system ticking over at an economy setting?
Does it use more energy to run just hot water with the selector dial in the Winter setting, i.e. even in Winter is it worth switching back to Summer setting if you are unlikely to be using the heating for any length of time (e.g. away for a weekend)?
Apologies if these questions have been answered elsewhere. As I am sure everyone is, I'm keen to make sure I am using the system as economically as possible within the realms of its design.
Cheers,
Ross
