Solar Heating
The boilermate has an electic immersion heater built in as a back up. Are there any obvious reasons why this cannot be replaced with a heat exchanger utilising solor heating?

Re: Solar Heating
None that I can think of, apart from the usual difficulties of controlling it. You'll need to find a way of firing the boiler only when the solar isn't producing the goods. The solar specialists probably have this resolved.

Re: Solar Heating
Many thanks, on the last solar installation I had, I just ensured the boiler was set to boost after sun down, however the solar controller does only run when the panel is hotter than the tank thus ensuring the system is not heating up the sky.
Have to say this is a useful forum as most plumbers have not come accross thermal stores and they are much more common in new build now.
