Fernox boiler noise silencer F2 and the Boilermate II Empty Fernox boiler noise silencer F2 and the Boilermate II

Hi,

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, we have a boilermate II (with a LIFF hot water limefighter fitted) and a Potterton Suprima 40 Boiler (both installed 1998). Boiler is serviced annually, last service a couple of months ago with no problems found, our Suprima has had the problem PCB replaced.

Heating is fine, hot water is fine, radiators to not appear to need bleeding.

When the heating is turned on and the boiler fires up, a tapping noise can be heard coming from the boiler but it also seems to be coming from the pipes near the Boilermate at the same time (not sure if this is just the same noise travelling along the pipework). It continues while the boiler is in use and eventually subsides shortly before the boiler stops.

Having searched online I have found numerous posts about 'Kettling noise' and came across suggestions of using Fernox F2 boiler noise silencer (where the system is older and untreated) which apparently can be added via the header tank in open vented systems.

Does anyone agree that this could be a solution to our problem, has anyone else used this product and how do I go about adding it to the header tank, I am a complete novice but not averse to having a go.....

Any advice appreciated.

Many thanks

Suzanne

Instructions come with the product.
I would get the tube one and put it in a rad.
But it may be better to get someone to help you.
