Temperamental pulsacoil - the bane of my life
Thanks for this website btw, its been useful over the last few years.
HOWEVER.... I'm not a heater engineer, I dont want to be, I have a job, I want to ring a man up to come and service/repair my boiler as I've always done with my boilers in the past, thats what helps the world go round. Could I fix it myself? I guess, if I have to. Which I might have to - I've rung a couple of people about coming out and servicing the boiler and to look into this problem and the prices quoted are starting at £300.00. Just to come out, service and look at the problem. £300.00 - plus VAT, any parts and labour of course.
My pulsacoil is now over 9 years old but hasnt worked as it is supposed to for at least the last 5. What happened was when I started working part of the week from the flat I discovered that there was no hot water from mid afternoon onwards. There didnt appear to be anything wrong but I wasnt happy continually having to use the boost button on these days. My solution was to alter the timer, assuming there was still access to electricity outside of the economy 7, and I had it come on for a couple of hours at tea time and that works fine. Most of the time. But still occasionally am unable to get hot water mid afternoon. I've tried today to use the boost button, took ages for the water to get hot and now its far too hot as is usual when I use the boost button. All the led's are doing what they should be doing, the timer appears to be working, so why does it not produce hot water mid afternoon? The tank is warm so I'm sure the water is hot in there yet the water coming out of the hot tap is colder than the water from my cold tap (another issue altogether btw).
I would like to say something else. For the first 5 years living here, and when I would have thought the thermastore was at its best, I was part of a energy study. At the end of that period of time I was informed I would have paid less in electricity if I'd been on a standard tariff as opposed to economy 7. Because I'd signed up for the study and couldnt change my supplier or tariff whilst on it I got money back but its an eye-opener for those of us who thought we were saving money.
So my question is, what is wrong? and should I just rip it out and get something more consumer friendly.

HI,
I would suggest that you put a request on the repairs page for a specialist in your are.
It sounds like you have two issues, Timing issue and also sensor issues a good local engineer would be able to fix these problems at a fraction of the £300.00 you have been quoted.
Kind regards
Gary
