no hot water from taps
I am new to this forum, so forgive me if this query has already been aswered
I tried to have a shower this morning - ice cold water, checked the rads - nice and warm
I checked my boilermate 2000, no leds on by the switch, but noticed a slight burnt smell
I took the plunge and took off the front panel, black sooty deposits on flat surfaces and a sooty patch behind the switch pcb, if i look closer, it looks like something has burnt out
I can get hot tap water via the emergency switch (immersion heating) and short blasts of hot via the normal switch position
I have called out british gas (tomorrow), but i am fairly sure they won't repair it
Is this a common fault? - and do you know a reliable (and cheap) enginner in the gainsborough / lincolnshire area?
Thanks

Look on the home page for list of advertisers.
Or Google up for one in your area.
Or call Gledhill who may recommend some one.
If they cover your area, they may give you a fixed price repair quote.
If you posted some pictures it may be more helpful.
To give you an idea a Switch PCB is around £80.00p
Have you been using the "switch" very often?

never used the 'switch' until today
noticed inside the cover the red LED dispalys either '- on' or '= on' with either 2 or 3 green LED's
seems to be working now, but don't know for how long
still smells a bit like burnt plastic
hope it is still safe to use - getting cold out there!
thanks for your reply

no hot water from taps
checked out suppliers - 'switch' pcb is about £80 (some plus delivery)
gledhills spares dept. cost about £53 delivered
delivered today and fitted (DIY) - seems to work fine so far
gledhill advise they do need replacing, but not often
looks like they might be a good source for spares

information
also noticed that inside the casing was a sealed packet containing the installing docs. etc. for the boilermate
it gives an idea of the LED indicators and what the push button switches do (diagnostics etc.)
also noticed it looks like the earth wire from the room 'stat is loose (according to the wiring diagram) - don't know how long it has been loose and if it is important
the book says you don't need to use inhibitor....but it helps if you do
