boilermate II PCB BOARD Empty PCB's

Post  mmartin Wed Feb 26, 2020 3:12 pm

Hi I think I might have replied to this via another route but for others benefit.

The two pcb's have the following functions. The one with the big yellow capacitor (yellow tube) on one side is the pump delay timer its job is to run the boiler pump on for three minutes after the boiler is switched off, this stops some boilers tripping on overheat but also removed the last bit of latent heat from the boiler to improve efficiency, the unit could be run without this pcb but it might cause overheat tripping issues on some boilers. This is should be the bottom pcb.

The other pcb is the pump drive pcb it runs the central heating pump for a few seconds every 40 hours or so to help stop it seizing when it is not used typically in the summer months. The system can run without this without to much issue other than the possibility of the heating pump sticking of not used much.

Hope this helps regards Murray

Hi thanks for the reply. The boiler is an ideal boiler( sorry don’t know model number) l guess this has been run like this for some time ..like l said my son just moved in ..on another inspection today while it was buzzing it was the top PCB board..but it would be because the bottom ones not wired in...going forward is it ok to leave it like this with this boiler ? In the few months my son has been in the boiler has never tripped ..more investigation needed l think ..cheers..

boilermate II PCB BOARD Empty BoilerMate II PCBs

Post  martins321 Sun Mar 22, 2020 3:38 am

The two PCBs in question operate in a pretty hot environment on the BMII, both the boards in mine suffered electrolytic capacitor failures (small black or blue cylindrical devices - the tops or ends bulge when they fail) as the ones used are usually only rated at 85C. I replaced mine with 105C rated which seems to have stopped the failures and subsequent buzzing of relays.
This sort of repair is pretty simple for anyone used to board level electronics - be aware that the boards carry mains voltage!!!!

Replacement boards may still be available on line, links below look like the correct parts :-

Other suppliers are available.
