No Hot water - constantly having to fill top-up tank

Every couple of weeks - or when away for a while - or after a long shower + 5/7 mins (2 people living in flat)....there will be no hot water afterwards. I then have to the pain-in-the-butt task of filling the top-up tank - about 10 sausepans of water. I was in a previous flat with the same PC3 and the exact same problem. There clearly is a design fault with the PC3....please can some one advise on a solution or some advice. (There is no apparent feeder pipe above the top-up tank)

Hi Austyn

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news for you, but if you are having to top up the water in the tank on such a regular basis then you have a leaking unit.
To help you understand this, a simple way of putting it is for you to imagine the Pulsacoil 3 as being a bucket of water that is filled to the top edge. If you are having to put more water into it, then it means that the water that you already had in it has leaked out.

With the symptoms of continual water loss as you have described, I'm afraid the really bad news is that the unit will almost certainly require replacing. One additional item that needs to be considered is where is the water going to? If you haven't noticed a damp area around the base of the unit then it most be going to somewhere else (if you live in an apartment block it would be wise to check the apartment below just in case it is leaking through to their airing cupboard ceiling).

The unit itself may not be leaking, it could be a part like the element, pump isolator or even plated heat exchanger. If these parts are leaking, they can be fixed without replacing the system. If the cylinder itself is leaking, I would then agree with David and say replace it.
