No hot water from immersion, no lights on Empty No hot water from immersion, no lights on

Hi,

Great website! So much useful information. I have had a good look through but cannot find my exact problem.

I use the immersion heater overnight for my hot water however this morning it only ran cold. Both led lights on the front are off and it says get an engineer. However I would like to get an idea what might be wrong before I call someone.

I have a pulsacoil 2000 its about 10 years old now. I have checked the header tank and it has sufficient water in it. I tried the booster and it was able to supply hot water. I opened the front cover and the led on the circuit board is flashing twice per second. Every looks clean and dry with no leaks.

I think it could be the immersion heating element.
Is this something I could replace myself or would I need to get an engineer? If so, roughly what should I expect to pay?

Could it be something else?

Many thanks

PC 2000.
Is it hot?
Feel big pipe on top of the unit.
If hot not the heaters.
If it is cold could be heater/ s
Or rod stats.
You may have a PC 2000 with a reset stat.
Or even a relay fitted.
Is the clock / timer ok?
Sounds weird you have not Off peak or On peak working.
Flashing red light can mean ok.
Check the manual for the sequence of flashing.
Your problem is listed with in the posts of the PC 2000, just depends on what trouble you have,

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply.

Only the off peak water is cold. The booster works ok. Luckily.

Not quite sure which pipe to check. The one at the top that goes into the header is warm.

The circuit board flashes twice which according to the manual is ok. However both the fault light and the green light are off on the front which according to the manual means I need an engineer.

Right the boost is working. So the top heater is ok.
But that only heats up about one third of the unit.
Bottom heater may have failed.
Or the rod stat / thermostat.
Need to check it out.
Any good electrician should be able to check the supply / clock / timer.
The stat.
The heater.
As for the 2 lights I would ignore them.
You may have a reset safety trip inside the unit.
Will be near the top right hand side.
2 pipes on top of the unit.
1 is 15mm small
The other is 22mm big.
The big one needs to be hot. Hot so you can not hold it!
If you can then you will not have much DHW hot water!
After all it is a thermal store.
It stores heat.
When using the boost you get hot water?
If so that means the pump & sensors etc are ok.
