Header tank very hot Empty Header tank very hot

The header tank on top of the boiler mate feels very hot to touch even with the thermostat turned to blue summer region. Could this be a thermostat problem or related to the timer which stopped working a few months ago, I now use the system manually.

Assuming you have a Boilermate II this is probably bad news. On the BMII there is a tendency for the internal heat exchanger to crack and begin to slowly leak mains pressure water into the low pressure water in the store itself. This escapes up into the header tank and out through the overflow pipe and drips outside.

As the water in the thermal store is always hot, this makes the header tank hot too. The only fix is a new Boilermate I'm afraid.

Header tank very hot Empty apologies I forgot to say thanks for response

for info, fortunately I discovered that the header tank was over filling so that it got to the level where it covered what I assume is the expansion pipe from the main heat store. Therefore I assume this meant the boilermate was heating the water in the header tank as well. I fixed the level in the header and it hasnt got hot again.
