Pulsacoil III - Can you replace the rod thermostat with any 11" thermostat...?
I believe my (recently replaced!!!) thermostat may be faulty.
Can you replace the Pulsacoil III rodstat with any 11" thermostat (ie, one from B&Q), or do you have to order that specific make?

Yes any rod thermostat will do.
If you replace both rod stats with new 'dual' type thermostats i.e. with overheat protection thermostats incorporated, you can bridge out and remove the old, separate overheat 'stat too.
Cheers, Mike

Mike, looking at your reply I replaced both my thermostats but now the water temperature is not quite the same. I upped it to the maximum setting of 70* on the thermostat but it still does not seem the same as before and also runs out much faster than before.
Is there something I can do to fix this without replacing the rods again?

Re: Pulsacoil III - Can you replace the rod thermostat with any 11" thermostat...?
Hi, is there anyone who can help? Since replacing the immersion rods with new ones the hot water just runs out very quickly - unlike before. The unit is definitely heating up all night so why should the hot water run out?
PLEASE HELP!!

Re: Pulsacoil III - Can you replace the rod thermostat with any 11" thermostat...?
If you wanted to replace your thermostats because the overheat 'stat was tripping, the unit was probably overheating. Now the new stats are heating it to about 75 degrees C (instead of the 90 degrees C that the overheat stat trips at), there is less heat energy stored in the unit so the volume of hot water available will be smaller than before.
OTOH it could be that the new 'stat you've fitted is in the lower heater is faulty, or not turned up to MAX. Turn it up to MAX.
If it is already at MAX, try swapping it the two 'stats around. If the performance remains the same, then the unit is probably actually working correctly.
Cheers, Mike

Mike - thanks for your reply. The rods are definitely set to the max (70*) and are both working. When you say the unit is not working correctly - what else could be not working? Could this be the pump?

That's not what I said. I said "the unit is probably actually working correctly". Read my post again, more carfully!
What happened when you tried swapping the thermostats as I suggested?
And saying your hot water 'runs out very quickly' is just too vague to be able to diagnose over the net. How much hot water do you get before it runs out? A jugful? A bucket? A five minute shower? Two ten minute showers? IF just a jugful, this will be a failed DHW sensor.
Cheers, Mike

Re: Pulsacoil III - Can you replace the rod thermostat with any 11" thermostat...?
I can't swap the thermostats on my own without getting a qualified plumber to do this. But the person who put in the replacement immersion heaters did say that they were both working fine. Now he won't return calls.
I get about 2 ten minute showers before the hot water runs out. Any ideas on what to look for?
Also can you suggest someone reliable in East London for this?

I would recommend the XB114 thermostat rod
XB114 is the recommended thermostat according to Gledhill, you can find it via this link: Gledhill Pulsacoil 3 Spares
